This is an interesting invention from France.
It is a ball-like device with magnetic ball bearing inside.
When you throw it into the washing machine, the magnetic-ball will create magnetic field and soften the water.
It was stated in the paper that the Soften Water can help to cleanse dirty laundry without the need of washing powder.

Hey Guys,
I dont know about this, but as someone who got a A in GCE O level physics/chemistry, I taught this is not too scientific right?
So what causes water to be hard? It is the calcium carbonate and this reacts with the detergent.
And calcium carbonate is not magnetic as far as I know, unless the physics I learn is out of date. So how does a magnet soften water?
I did a search in Google on “magnetic field to soften water” and found a website on this issue.

Plastic container with magnetic device to soften water, in particular for use in steam irons and for similar purposes
Another website talk about softening water is at http://www.hardwater.org/water_treatment.html
Do these really work? I thought it was proven to be a scam? Still see them being hawked by people near MRT stations and bus interchanges all the time though.
I have used one of these for about 6 months and very happy. I have found however the whites come out a little grey so wash these with powder. I am now using 80% less detergent. Bravo cleanballz
